Preparing for Chanukah

Children love nothing more than getting involved in the festival spirit and so, with Chanukah, set to take place, now is the perfect time to occupy youngsters with tasks related to the celebration.

As well as the population of Israel, many Jews in other countries around the world mark this special time of year.

Getting little ones involved in Chanukah activities such as doughnut and latke making and playing with spinning-tops is a great way to help them discover  how these traditions evolved as well as Jewish and Israeli culture.

Chanukah, which is also commonly referred to as Hanukkah, is an eight-day holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt. The celebration lasts for eight nights and days and begins on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar. This can fall at any time from late November until late December.

the Israeli Embassy London has been celebrating Chanukah with various events. Have a look at the Embassy website to find out more.
